This suburb also has one of Australia’s man made site with World Heritage status, which is the Royal Exhibition Building. This building is located in the Carlton Gardens.

This suburb was founded in 1851, which was the beginning of the Victorian Gold Rush. The Carlton Post Office was opened on the 19th of October in 1865. Carlton also has The Bali Memorial which is located in Lincoln Square. This is to commemorate the victims of the 2002 Bali Bombing that killed 202 innocent people, 88 of them Australians.
